Frequently Asked Questions
What licence do I need?
As we are insured under Motorcycling Australia [M.A.], we require all entrants to hold either a M.A. National Race Licence or Recreational Licence. If you do not hold one of these, you can purchase an M.A. One Day Licence from us on the day for a cost of $38. More information can be found on the Motorcycling Australia website
What is included in a Coaching School?
Ted Collins, Tayla Relph, and Nick Primmer are accredited Motorcycling Australia Level 1 coaches and have a combined experience of over 20 years in coaching, so you are in good hands! Coaching is free and always included in your booking price.
What are your age restrictions?
All coaching groups are designated for those aged 17 and over. Riders under 16 are welcome, but must contact us prior to booking to discuss requirements.
Is there camping available?
Camping is only available for our Mac Park and Broadford events. Mac Park camping is available for an additional cost of $15 per person, per night. Broadford Camping is available for an additional cost of $10 per person, per night.
Can you ride any bike, even if it's not a race bike?
Yes, you can bring any type of motorcycle provided it is in safe, rideable condition. Each morning our team conducts a scrutineering and safety check to ensure all bikes are track-ready. We’ll do our best to help with any small modifications if required.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
Your entry fee will not be refunded if you choose to cancel after payment has been made. Refunds will only be given if South West Track Days deems your reason to be acceptable. Weather Conditions: If South West Track Days are forced to cancel the event due to bad weather or poor track conditions, the entrant may choose to either have their payment amount refunded or they can transfer their entry over to the next available date. Please note, events will only be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions such as hail or lightening.
Do I need previous track experience to attend?
No. Our schools are designed for riders of all levels, from first-timers to seasoned racers.
What protective gear do I need?
All riders must wear a full leather suit (one-piece or two-piece with a connecting zip), full-face helmet, gloves, and boots that cover the ankles. HIRE GEAR IS AVAILABLE but you must pre-order when booking.
What happens if it rains?
Our days continue rain or shine. Our coaches will assist with tyre pressures and guide you through riding safely in wet conditions — a valuable skill to develop.

What if my bike breaks down or I crash?
Refunds are not provided, but you’re encouraged to remain for classroom sessions and debriefs to continue learning.
Do I get to choose my coach for the day?
As a general rule of thumb, our days are divided into three groups based on experience level, lap times, and machine type. Our coaches are designated to a specific group for the day.
What time should I arrive to the circuit?
We always suggest to arrive 1.5 - 2 hours before the day starts. This allows you to set up, sign on, and get your tyre warmers switched on nice and early for optimum temperates.
Do I need to take off or remove the mirrors on my bike?
You do not need to take your mirrors off, but it is mandatory that all mirrors and any glass/indicators or lights are taped up prior to your first sessions. This will be picked up duing scrutineering if you have not yet done so. This is done to reduce the spread of glass and plastic shards being spread across the track in the instance of a crash or altercation.
